Affectionately known as the “man of the people”, Dr Mohammed “Chota” Motala was born in 1921 and dedicated his life to serving humanity. Through his profession as a doctor, Dr Chota Motala’s commitment and dedication to honouring his patients ultimately led him to lend his helpful hand to the political struggles in a pre-democratic South Africa.
MANCOSA is pleased to announce that a third annual memorial lecture will be held at its Graduate School of Business, in Durban, to honour Dr Chota Motala. In keeping with the tradition of previous annual Dr Chota Motala Memorial lectures, the guest speaker, Mr Kgalema Petrus Motlanthe (former President of South Africa), will commemorate and pay tribute to a struggle hero, treason trialist, loving husband and supportive father, the late Dr Chota Motala.
The annual Dr Chota Motala Memorial Lecture welcomes political and social contributions about contemporary issues in the post-apartheid era. Invited key note speakers are usually distinguished political personalities, who have and who continue to share a relationship with the late Dr Chota Motala and his family.
